Upbeat and dancey to start with, it gets nice and glitchy through the middle, and gets heavier towards the end, maintaining a pumping beat all the way through... Good juggling music for me!

Peachi here - Well it is with much aural pleasure that I present to you a link or two to a veritable plethora of deliciously dirty and driving dubstep DeehJay mixes - by none other than the man himself Josh. This is the gent that melted my brain at Nowhere Festival several times and had me blowing synapses all over the place. He also worked his arse off and put together the 'Jungle is Massive' Ubertown camp that was the centre of several of my top moments of Nowhere (great name for a camp too!). See previous post about the Badicals for edivence... Thanks Josh!
Nowhere Festival is the European Regional Burning Man gathering and he also DJ's at the associated London Decompression Parties (an indoor winter Burning Man'esque ra-union party) and he regularly makes socks dissapear there too ;)
So I'm just gonna give you the link to his soundcloud page where there are 9 mixes to choose from: 5 dubstep, 2 glitch, 1 drum & bass and one electro. I have to say the Electro Mix included above is my favourite, although there are moments in the other dubstep mixes that got me drooling. As hoped for, Josh remembered to press record and added two more mixes from playing out last weekend (15-16th Jan 2011), which I am still working my way through. So the mixes at the top of the page on his soundcloud page are fresh out the packet ladies and gents... mmmmm!
If I was gonna give some constructive feedback, I'd say that dubstep gets a bad name for sometimes just putting some womp bass behind a well known track without really meshing it in well or making it into something new and improved (it can get a bit samey and formulaic). Which is why I think I tend to veer towards dubstep producers who mainly create original tracks rather than just remixes (e.g. Mimosa, NitGrit). That said, some remixes are better than others and there are some less good selections in the Josh mixes in my opinion. But that's just my opinion - different peeps will probably like different ones, so I guess it's hard to predict what's gonna work as a supasta DeehJay. The main thing is that most of the time they are just full power inspiringly PHAT tracks!! Enjoy!

And YES finally NitGrit has something out on soundcloud that you can download for free- its uploaded by Chronodog and its only 27 mins long but its a corker. I also recommend just going to his soundcloud home page and just listening to everything there. There is also a free EP - Pedro the Destroyer - to be downloaded from his (pretty basic) website. So go on have a click-a-thon and please buy one of his EP's or his album if you like the free stuff - support the dude (see below):

His four main EP's that I can work out are (in sort of chronological order, most recent first): Awakenings, Synthetic Heaven, Heavy Machinary and Pedro the Destroyer - although there are many other tracks on his soundcloud page (and according to his website Heavy Machinery comes out in December 2010 - so yeah that really needs some work - his Face Waste page is much more up to date and he checks in there failry regularly it seems). He has one album out that is also on his webpage that is self named NiT GRit which has 13 great track on it.
Of the EP's Awakenings is by far the most evolved and beautiful, with the others getting steadily harder as you go back in time. I'm not going to give a big analysis because someone has already done it much better than I could here. And I pretty much agree with what's said there so no need to repeat it - its a really good read too (very insightful and inspiring review - respek!). Love Song on the Awakenings EP has a beutiful haunting lyric on it and Grit Shift is pumping full of life force. So I recommend buying the Awakenings EP at least. You can buy it here I think. They're around $5 each so why not buy the lot aye ;)
I would say though that he still has some way to go to capture the subtelties, depth and epic'ness found in, for instance, Mimosa - which is also a lot more varied IMHO. But its still rockin it and its got some beautiful future-tech sounds in there!! All could be a good accompaniment for a massive space battle - and that's my litmus test for a good hard track ;)
If you want to hear some of his earlier stuff then there is Lay Awake and Sloth Logic - which I think are more down temp - but I haven't gone through them yet. ENJOY!!

These boys, Chad North and Dale Purrough, now joined by Raydeus, select the finest fidget, glitch, tech funk, breaks and techno from both sides of the pond and deliver it straight to your mp3 player. You can't ask for more than that really...

A regular at LA's Low End Theory, he's part of the same glitchy, jazzy future hop stable as Flying Lotus and Gas Lamp Killer. So when glitch-hop first crunked on my ears in 2007 one of the big names that stood out for me was Vibesquad (aka. Aaron Holstein). I didn't realise at the time that he'd only dropped the first Vibequad live set at Symbiosis Gathering the year before, but along with Tipper, Ooah, Edit and Bassnectar he's certainly been one of the producers that's led the way for the new west coast dubsteppy flavoured bass sound.

Whether making crunk style glitchhop or psy-dub, Vibesquad's production is just right - a tight reigned wobble rather than an over-excited over-simplified bassline, with plenty of intricate psycedelic high end arpeggios over the top to keep those synapses twinkling. He's recently put up two mixsets on his shiny new website - get your ears around these for a full flavour.
Unprotected by his dry wit and good taste, since Damion left an RIP message on the site over a year ago I actually lost my will to wade through the plethora of psytrance inanity to reach those golden nuggets of psychedelic funkiness. In fact, the quest for fresh sound even led me to start this blog. Now though, Psyreviews is back with plans for the future! (and he's on Twitter)
As anyone who reads the site knows, Psyreviews has never been just about the psytrance, so I'm pleased that Damion has continued to highlight the lush downtempo gems and deep progressive trance that always had me coming back for more.
In particular I appreciate being led to these two absolutely lush EPs from Evan Bluetech and Kilowatts, both US producers that helped me get into a glitch-ier downtempo sound. The EPs mark a progression in both their styles since I last picked up their releases around 2007/2008; Bluetech with bigger beats and bass and Kilowatts just taking it deeper with plenty of wobbly, floaty layers. As for the future, in early 2010 Damion will be outsourcing reviews and re-jigging the site as more of a collaborative blog (like ThisIsBreaks.com). Let's hope the new contributors keep up that same quality of tongue in cheek shit sifting that we've got used to.
NB. Psyreviews is a free resource but you're welcome to donate. Likewise Bluetech and Kilowatts have put these EPs up for free, but I can tell you now they're well worth paying for (especially the Kilowatts). Have a listen and go hunt down some of their other releases - they're just as good!
Some producers it seems can do no wrong. Ooah (aka Josh Mayer) appears to be one of them. Not only has he recently dropped what is possibly the best glitch-hop album of the year, PANTyRAiD - The Source (with Marty Party), but thanks to Dancefever5000 I've just discovered that he has a new lush chill out album out under the name Of Porcelain. If you like PANTyRAiD or Bluetech and that whole Left Coast Liquid / Native State, then sounds then make sure you check it out.
Continuing my obsession with all things West Coast and bass heavy, a number of random factors have led me towards Seattle's Decibel Festival which takes place over the course of the next week. I came across the event by accident last year while working towards the decibel Performing Arts Showcase 2009, a completely unconnected event, which took place in Manchester last week. The Google alerts from 2008 (Lusine, Deru, Tycho, Flying Lotus, The Glitch Mob, The Bug, and Superpitcher) were enough to get my mouth watering. Also last week, my mate Loz returned from Burning Man to tell me that Seattle is so cool she plans to move there to join my another friend, Mike, who moved there a few years back.
"While everyone heaps (admittedly deserved) praise on long-running events like MUTEK and DEMF/Movement, it's easy to forget that Seattle's Decibel Festival has been not-so-quietly holding it down for the West Coast. Founded in 2003, Decibel has consistently shined a light on electronic music innovators big and small, from international stars to underground up-and-comers. This year's edition is no different, with a lineup headlined by U.K. noisemakers like Mala, Benga, Caspa, and Mary Anne Hobbs, not to mention some like-minded folks from this side of the Atlantic, including Martyn, Daedelus, Gaslamp Killer, and Nosaj Thing. Yet it's not all low-end madness—other notables include Alter Ego, The Wighnomy Brothers, Move D, Lusine, Derek Plaslaiko, Voodeux, and even U.K. dub wizard Mad Professor. In all, more than 100 performers will be scattered across Seattle over the course of four days. Plus, the festival also includes a number of panels, workshops, film screenings, and more."

While my girl Danielle has been swanning around the desert at Black Rock City, enjoying pool parties in Reno and shopping down Haight Street, my aim has been to get a mix finished and up on the blog. In the little time I've had to actually DJ I've started about 4 or 5 new mixes. In the end neither the nu-disco, electro-rock, glitch hop or dub mixes made the cut.
Having just downloaded a few new tunes though, I've just knocked out a fairly percussive and bass heavy dubstep/IDM/glitch mix with less that 12hrs before she gets back. I think it does a fair job of catching my melancholy at missing my girl (and Burning Man!) and my joy at her return. The start could flow better, but I'm really happy with the middle section - tell me what you think!

If you're still not sure what 'glitch' is, this interview with the Glitch Mob goes a long way to explaining what's happening state-side at the moment. This is quite possibly one of the best artist interviews I've watched in a long time.. it completely sums up what's so exciting about the scene in the US right now. Oh bollox, I can't help it...
