Bass cannons and trouser wobblers

Easy now - Upstart here for the first time in loooongtimes. I'll blame a lack of internets during my time in Berlin, but really it's just chronic laziness. Still, despite not having posted here for a couple of months, I've been snuffling away for musical truffles like a big metaphorical piggy.

But I think rather than bore you all with my lukewarm banter, I'm just going to crack on with the bangers.

First up: Stumbled upon this massive banger while out in Berlin: IMF by Terry Lynn

This for me is the biggest tune I've heard this year, so imagine my surprise when I found out the album came out in 2008! If you can already see me goggle-eyed and amazed, imagine my further surprise when I found out as I was writing this post that THE WHOLE ALBUM IS AVAILABLE FOR FREE DOWNLOAD.

Yes, that's right, I'm shouting, partly because it's phenomenally awesome and partly because I need to distract my work colleagues from the fact that I need to change my trousers now...

Ahem... moving swiftly on, next up is Bust a Fuze from southern UK's mysterious mastermind WBBL. Crank up your bass cannons in advance:

I'm finding it harder to track down Glitch Hop and Glitch that really floats my boat at the moment - lots that I'm hearing recently just sounds like a re-hash of the Glitch Mob or Koan Sound... Having said that, Mouldy Soul, in my opinion, never fails to crank out the bangers.

"Funky Monkey" is more psy trance and not really my ting, but you may like it... and of course its a great name ;)

"Factorydelic" (below) is a tiny bit older but is lovely and PHAT and aptly described as: "A dirty wander through a scummer's dream" . It certainly is scratchy-scratchy behind the ears tech funk - so download it NOW for aural pleasure! (its a WAV file for some reason so takes a while, but well worth it! ...or is it "Fuck-tory-delic" as it appears when you play it... much better name... ha ha ha ;)

Smarter than the average bear - Mary Miss Fairy

Peachi here: Well here it is - after a little wait and some last minute technical issues - we finally have the latest MMF mix - Smarter than the Average Bear.

This mix reminds me alot of 'Wonk This Way' (my other favourite MMF mix) but is definately much MUCH phatter in alot of places! Similar progression from more minimalist stuff to a rocking Dirty Disco Filth section in the middle, with some real mind melters making mince meat of your mind at the end! So heavy are the tracks towards the end and I have to admit I was a bit scared (luckily I'd eaten my hedonistic-porridge this morning so I was OK) ;)

Actually towards the end of the mix it reminded me of her set at Matter earlier in the year, which at the time was right on the edge of my 'heavy-techno' radar. But since then my tastes have changed to appreciate this flavour much more... I think it comes across better on headphones also! Its also much less playful on the dance floor than the more dirty disco tracks. But then its also great to hear the heavy bass with your whole body at a club on massif speakers.... so it seems there are many different ways and moods to access this mix in! So my advice is to keep coming back to it and different tracks will stand out at different times. This is a sign of a good mix in my books (but thats just my humble opinion - but I'm usually right (in my mind!)).

Here's a 'random' picture I selected of Mary on her obviously-a-less-than-smart bear skin rug, thinking about her new set list (probably!). Shame really, if she made a bit of effort she could actually look all right ;)
