Mary Tale - Empress Relentless (Mary Melt) Mix

Hi all, Peachi ahoy after a long absence - forgive me. I guess I just haven't been listening to much new music recently apart from chasing up Morbjits MM updates. He's gona all glitch hop though, so I think its time to get back to some heavy tech funk breaks and who better to kick things of with than a favourite of the MM blog Mary Tale (artist formerly known as Mary Miss Fairy and treasured Ra-family member). Tis another belter from her with the kind of epic build-ups and drops remiscent of her legendary Paris Burners - Moulan Rouge set, [made it into Morbjits top three for 2011] - that set nearly took the roof off and fried a few onion garlands and burnt the bagettes!! [to be slightly racialistical - forgive me Monsieur Polo OohlaRa]

Before reveiwing Mary Tale's new mix, just a heads up to some SOPA and PIPA goings-on in the USA, to do with piracy and copyright infringment and freedom of the internet, that might seriously affect the whole internet by closing down sites like this. And I don't mean just this blog, but the host company for this site and any other media sharing sites, like: youtube, wikipedia and wordpress. To find out why check out this TED video that explains how they may become liable for user copyright infringments and managing that may become prohibitive. Then get informed and then get active, If you're from the US then get intouch with your government representative, if your not an Amerkan (mmmgay) then hassle your Amerkan friends to do so. It seems this bill wont pass, but a similar one may do soon, so stay informed and get active where necessary. Cheers!

I particularly like the first third as there as some really good build up tracks that drop into some massive drops. Mary has a great ear for tracks that do this and this makes listening to her set really high energy because you're on a roller coaster ride the whole way through. Although it seems to go a bit happy hardcore at around 13mins for a bit, it bounces back with some real brain melters in the mid section too. Very hard to describe the high energy tracks in there, but the best compliment I can give Mary's mixes is that I save them for special occassions and I have to be full on to listen to them. Not for the faint of heart and beware yee who wander across the mix half arsed, cause you will be dominated by the fembots of hard bass!! Which reminds me that I loved the tagline that comes with this mix:
"Like being beaten up by dominatrix robots whilst watching cute as a button anime characters Carlton dance for you...essentially"
- obvious innit, once you've listened to it!! I wasn't so sure about the drum and bass dessert at the end from about 47mins onwards but it wasn't too bad and you know, by now, she can do what she wants as you kneel before the Temple of the Empress Relentless taking it like the bass slut you are.... ehem... cough cough... OK, maybe that's just me then! ;-)

Mr. Mirra & Mary Miss Fairy - Evil Fembot & Robot Whores - and Bang My Ear new MMF mix

LO Peachi ere: Had to be careful how to write that title without suggesting anything :) Anyway, just a quicky to give you the links to two phat new tracks to buy and a new free mix from Mary Miss Fairy.... and I'll take any excuse to post sexy fembot pics!! [I enjoyed the research on this entry]

The two new tracks both have great names: "Evil Fembot" and "Robot Whores" and the former is produced by Mr. Mirra and Mary Miss Fairy, the latter just by Mr. Mirra - they both have a stunningly pounding bass and a phat driving beat and some good fembot samples in there (one from the top SciFi film Surrogates I believe). I really loved them both and will be using them in future mixes. You can buy both for a measly £3.46 on Beatport (not sure why it's categorised as 'trance' though?). Anyway, please support the artist if you enjoy all the free stuff!!

Bad Tango's Analogue Hedgehog, Flithy Peasant and Disco Steve

Helloo - Katty here - finally got around to writing a music blog thanks to Peachi & co.! Looking forward to sharing my favourite artists' music with you - new and old- so be it breaks, filth, full on psytrance, dubby dub dub or mash potato, I'll do my best to give you a tasty selection of the chunkiest funkiest beats out there :D

First up: my favourite psy-breaks artist of the moment, who has literally burst onto the scene within the last few months with his astoundingly astute production skillz and scintillatingly spiky sound. Monsieur Will Railton aka BAD TANGO is only 22, but has already created a most excellent reputation: since smashing up the dancefloor at gigs such as Waveform festival 2010, Mr Tango's crafty creations are sure to be snapped up by record labels and DJs alike as he continues to produce top drawer choons.

And one of my personal favourites: so aptly named, 'Analogue Hedgehog' truly evokes a plump, squidgy hedgehog covered with sharp metallic spikes, shuffling and bumbling along enjoying the groove! How he makes it sound simultaneously soft and spiky escapes me (think Peachi's alliteration might be catching?!)

If you take your break(fast?) with an edge of tech funk filthiness, look no further than this obese mix by dirt fiend FILTHY PEASANT (Matt Lawrence). True to his name, this rather sneaky vagabond schmuches up psy and funk influences with technical prowess. The middle phase of Far Too Loud, Olmec and Sam Hell tracks particularly floats my boat! Here's his December mix, the best I reckon:

Last but not least, DISCO STEVE is a psytrance mixologist that has caught my attention recently. If you're into wild psychedelic journeys to planet zogg and beyond, this mix will be right up your street! Hovering on the edge of my threshold for full-on/'dark' tolerance but definitely making me want to stomp like a maniac, Steven Roberts shows his relentless passion for psy - especially from South Africa. Last track is stupendous!

L O... Peachi ere: Well September sees the return of a favourite on the MM blog. YES its another SMASHER of a set from our good friend Dr. Hedflux and what better way to end the summer than with a lovely hour+ mix of very Hedflux'esque psychadelic tech funk. For me the stand out tracks have to be Revolve and Rhythm Prism that are just lovely examples of psy trance with a funky ass bass line and some lovely tech-future sounds: hence psy tech funk!! ...simples innit ;) (basically what I used to call techno-trance in my Escape from Samsara Days - but much more evolved) ......Revovle has all the spaciousness of Basscake with the driving bass and cheeky stops over lain by mind tickling psy licks to fiddle fondly with your flowing flux. I really like the "revolution" sample just before the big drop in the middle of the track. Rythm Prism just makes me want to BOUNCE BOUNCE BOUNCE with its cheeky blip and blaps and upbeat boinging bass. Mind Cell is a corker but a little bit older and White Nights is new to me and is a lovely end to the mix.

In terms of overall composition this is a really evenly paced mix, unlike his Feb 2009 Promo mix (also free) which definately builds, this just gets going right from the start, which is great for using as a party mix if you want to UP the energy in the room sharpish. Things go a bit less playful after Revolve as Dr.Hedlux shows his darker side, but I think this sets it all up nicely for the final track as you emerge into the sunshine out of the more heavy techno laden last quarter; even though the last track is still still quite hard but FULL ON! (like a double rainbow OMG!). Great mix all round, thanks Steve and keep on keeping on!

In terms of developing and expanding this genre though, I wonder if there isn't some scope for fusion using some more dubstep'ey baselines and top end licks like in Mimosa and Nit GRit. There are some lovely grating serating bass lines and some crazy sounds that would mix well with Hedflux's style tracks. I think the range of beats/bass lines in dubstep is much more innovative and interesting than in the tech funk arena and why my attention has been there mostly recently (see previous). Lets hope there is some fusion, no harm in dropping a hint or two is there ;)

So Dr.Hedflux has being blowing our minds in other ways with, in his words, a "humble contribution to the LSD magazine: to be be found in Issue 5, page 104. And a right royal good read it is too... really honest, open and a far out there introduction to the ideas behind his " its the future brought to us now" music. Read and contemplate hmmmmm:

What with all the flat hunting, working and partying lately, I haven't found much time to blog. I do now have an iPhone though, so that might all change! Here's the first attempt:

One of the things that's been keeping me going through January is the brilliant Jungo Road podcast. These boys, Chad North and Dale Purrough, now joined by Raydeus, select the finest fidget, glitch, tech funk, breaks and techno from both sides of the pond and deliver it straight to your mp3 player. You can't ask for more than that really...

Breakz R Boss Records: Mr. Bassline Junk-E

My mate Len's recently come back over from Canada for a short stay in the UK. He went out there to follow a girl who promptly dumped him... what a bitch! He's still enjoying life in Calgary though....

Something slightly more positive to come out of Canada lately is this free web EP from a new label, Breakz R Boss Records. The original contains a sample from the 1974 hit single "Dreamer " by Supertramp's, which to be honest I find pretty pretty annoying, but the underlying tunes are phat. I particularly recommend Proton and Grateful's funky electro breaks remix, which doesn't have the awful singing on it. They're apparently from Russia, which I'd never known before for it's breaks music, so I'll be looking those two up now for sure!

BREAKZ R BOSS RECORDS is a New Digital Label from Western Canada, owned and operated by Bass Charger and the Breakz R Boss Crew. Their 1st release will be out in February 2010 which is a Dj Somsay original with Remixes by Breakz R Boss artist Dreamthief & Mr. Bassline Junk-E. This should be followed by Tech, Tearout, Funky, & Electro Breakz, Bassline, Fidget & Electro 4x4 styles, DubStep & DNB.

Atomic Drop: Godzilla remix / Too Many Dicks on the Dancefloor

It's happened at last - Atomic Drop have dropped their first tune that us mere, non-superstar Dj's can get our grubby paws on! Coming straight outta Brighton, they're the best live electro/breaks/tech funk act of last year (I told you so), ripping it up at Glastonbury, Glade, Matter, Alpha Omega, Sonica, Electric Picnic and, ending the year where the started, on the beach at Bazil's massive Universo Paralello NYE party.

The first release is a bumping electro house remix of Dylan Rhymes and Tom Real's monster (geddit?) tech funk grinder Godzilla, on my fellow Suburbitonite Meat Katie's brilliant Lot 49 label.

If you don't already know, Atomic Drop is the filthy, sordid and downright dirty project of James Anthony (aka Liquid Djems, Liquid Records Co - Owner/Founder) and Ken Barrett(aka Keny Keys), with occasional guest appearances by Joe Markendale and Daniel Thomas. They've also got a very close relationship with Inside Us All (Voted 2009 Number 01 VJ's Worldwide – DJ Mag - Public Vote) with whom they debued their first fully live Audio Visual show at Matter in 2009. The boys should have their first EP, Forget Everything Else coming in February, on James's own label Liquid Records. There's also rumours of a psybreaks release compiled by Djem's somewhere on the horizon. Can't feckin wait.

In particular really loving Meat Katie's remix of 'These Girls' and Elite Force's rework of 'Feed Your Head', both on Elite Force's record label U&A.
