Mary Tale - Empress Relentless (Mary Melt) Mix

Hi all, Peachi ahoy after a long absence - forgive me. I guess I just haven't been listening to much new music recently apart from chasing up Morbjits MM updates. He's gona all glitch hop though, so I think its time to get back to some heavy tech funk breaks and who better to kick things of with than a favourite of the MM blog Mary Tale (artist formerly known as Mary Miss Fairy and treasured Ra-family member). Tis another belter from her with the kind of epic build-ups and drops remiscent of her legendary Paris Burners - Moulan Rouge set, [made it into Morbjits top three for 2011] - that set nearly took the roof off and fried a few onion garlands and burnt the bagettes!! [to be slightly racialistical - forgive me Monsieur Polo OohlaRa]

Before reveiwing Mary Tale's new mix, just a heads up to some SOPA and PIPA goings-on in the USA, to do with piracy and copyright infringment and freedom of the internet, that might seriously affect the whole internet by closing down sites like this. And I don't mean just this blog, but the host company for this site and any other media sharing sites, like: youtube, wikipedia and wordpress. To find out why check out this TED video that explains how they may become liable for user copyright infringments and managing that may become prohibitive. Then get informed and then get active, If you're from the US then get intouch with your government representative, if your not an Amerkan (mmmgay) then hassle your Amerkan friends to do so. It seems this bill wont pass, but a similar one may do soon, so stay informed and get active where necessary. Cheers!

I particularly like the first third as there as some really good build up tracks that drop into some massive drops. Mary has a great ear for tracks that do this and this makes listening to her set really high energy because you're on a roller coaster ride the whole way through. Although it seems to go a bit happy hardcore at around 13mins for a bit, it bounces back with some real brain melters in the mid section too. Very hard to describe the high energy tracks in there, but the best compliment I can give Mary's mixes is that I save them for special occassions and I have to be full on to listen to them. Not for the faint of heart and beware yee who wander across the mix half arsed, cause you will be dominated by the fembots of hard bass!! Which reminds me that I loved the tagline that comes with this mix:
"Like being beaten up by dominatrix robots whilst watching cute as a button anime characters Carlton dance for you...essentially"
- obvious innit, once you've listened to it!! I wasn't so sure about the drum and bass dessert at the end from about 47mins onwards but it wasn't too bad and you know, by now, she can do what she wants as you kneel before the Temple of the Empress Relentless taking it like the bass slut you are.... ehem... cough cough... OK, maybe that's just me then! ;-)

Mr. Mirra & Mary Miss Fairy - Evil Fembot & Robot Whores - and Bang My Ear new MMF mix

LO Peachi ere: Had to be careful how to write that title without suggesting anything :) Anyway, just a quicky to give you the links to two phat new tracks to buy and a new free mix from Mary Miss Fairy.... and I'll take any excuse to post sexy fembot pics!! [I enjoyed the research on this entry]

The two new tracks both have great names: "Evil Fembot" and "Robot Whores" and the former is produced by Mr. Mirra and Mary Miss Fairy, the latter just by Mr. Mirra - they both have a stunningly pounding bass and a phat driving beat and some good fembot samples in there (one from the top SciFi film Surrogates I believe). I really loved them both and will be using them in future mixes. You can buy both for a measly £3.46 on Beatport (not sure why it's categorised as 'trance' though?). Anyway, please support the artist if you enjoy all the free stuff!!

Smarter than the average bear - Mary Miss Fairy

Peachi here: Well here it is - after a little wait and some last minute technical issues - we finally have the latest MMF mix - Smarter than the Average Bear.

No longer an anticipation, but now an actually astounding amalgamation of aural altercations - this is a journey into some of the most filthy driving electro sounds you'll find this side of Pooh Corner. Make sure you download it fast while you still can!! Yes unbelievably its FREE!

This mix reminds me alot of 'Wonk This Way' (my other favourite MMF mix) but is definately much MUCH phatter in alot of places! Similar progression from more minimalist stuff to a rocking Dirty Disco Filth section in the middle, with some real mind melters making mince meat of your mind at the end! So heavy are the tracks towards the end and I have to admit I was a bit scared (luckily I'd eaten my hedonistic-porridge this morning so I was OK) ;)

Actually towards the end of the mix it reminded me of her set at Matter earlier in the year, which at the time was right on the edge of my 'heavy-techno' radar. But since then my tastes have changed to appreciate this flavour much more... I think it comes across better on headphones also! Its also much less playful on the dance floor than the more dirty disco tracks. But then its also great to hear the heavy bass with your whole body at a club on massif speakers.... so it seems there are many different ways and moods to access this mix in! So my advice is to keep coming back to it and different tracks will stand out at different times. This is a sign of a good mix in my books (but thats just my humble opinion - but I'm usually right (in my mind!)).

Here's a 'random' picture I selected of Mary on her obviously-a-less-than-smart bear skin rug, thinking about her new set list (probably!). Shame really, if she made a bit of effort she could actually look all right ;)

Halcyon - Matter Feb 12th - Review

Right here goes... my first attempt at a blog entry on the wonderful Musical Mana blog which I have been checking out for a while now. Since Chris is not connected to the intra-web at home at the mo, he's asked me to start contributing. So gonna keep them short and sweet at first (ha ha!... authors comment post blog... its a long-un!)

HALCYON at Matter 12th March 2010

What an unusual way to celebrate your mum's B-Day!... after springing a surprise visit on her at around 6pm and providing a healthy picnic meal for the dining table (cholesterol concerns are ingrained in my family at the moment)... I then drove down from Notts to pick up CD-Ra in the Saburbiton-Jungle and we headed to East London to the O2 Arena... having driven past this on NYE and seeing it all being lit up I was disappointed not to get the full-lit-up-dome show on arrival.... but once we figured out how to get in I appreciated the walk by the river to get in (all-be-it through the bitter cold in only club wear)... Although the same walk back past the river was also much appreciated in the morning; maybe a bit of sunshine would have been nice.... still it never rained so that's a bonus... RA!

Once in the club we spent some time meeting up with peeps in the main room but soon decided that the music we were really after was in the 2nd room up-tut-stairs and soon found ourselves parked by the first available speaker dancing to Atomic Drop, I think (never to really return to the main room really). After some weeks of just filling my head with phat beats via earphones it was so lovely to be covered all over it grating, serrrrrated, crrrrrackling beats that could be experienced by the whole body. Nothing like feeling the bass all over and scratching you behind the ears...mmmm... bass shower!

For most of the early part of the night 1-4am was spent just pissing around meeting people and chatting, loosely based around some dancing and comedy photograph taking (which was also based loosely around the magic shades - which I did loose for a bit but someone found them and gave them back to me - nice!).

It wasn't until Mary Miss Fairy was on the decks that things got serious. A palpable change in the heaviness of the music was evident as she blasted one floor stomper after the other. My favourite being "Felguk - Buzz Me" which I recognised from one of my favourite mixes (also by Mary) called Wonk this Way which I think is also on this blog with other exclusive releases from MMF a while ago.

At times her Matter set was bordering on the edges of actually-melting-my-brain. But probably the best way to sum it up is Chris-Ra's Tweet that I think was sent (long word alert) semicontemporaneously to the actual violence on our psykeeees (rhymes with cheese):

"Speakers are growling and giant slabs of techno are dropping from the ceiling!" - C-Ra mid attack

I think I got hit by a few of dose slabs and fully appreciated the power of this set from the very lovely and talented Mary who recently pushed several other top DJ's to the margins of the pages of Highlight mag (nothing to do with the sizzling picture of her I'm sure ;)

Next up was Hedflux who I first found out about through this Blog via his Glade09 minimix... which is where I first heard Basscake, which is my ALL TIME favourite track (at the moment ;). So I was looking forward to his set immensely and it didn't disappoint, with some lovely toones and top mixing, all capped by finishing with a new 'in progress' track. Regarding the Feb mix - once again a lovely progression from thick/deep/solid but mid- energy music then escalating up to some more full-on-stuff. All great tracks and lovely to listen too fully without tinkering about doing udder stuff (i.e. just sit and listen and focus!). Although I'd like to hear a mix from Steve that stays at one tempo just so I can go-to a Hedflux mix for a stable-mood rather than a journey if I want to. Just so I can have both options... not too much to ask is it! ;) Turns out he's a lovely person with great values too, which makes the music even better when you listen to it. Read this to see what I mean about where its all coming from!

So after Hedflux (not to be confused with the imposter HEADflux who either just seems to copy Dr. Hedflux or doesn't do anything for ages!!) it was into the main room for some meandering and general winding down.... but given the general feeling of "I'm so over Psy-trance" when in the main room, it was soon time to head off after a top night.... and many adventuRAs after that in all kinds of landscapes to follow.... ups and downs but all RAlly REAL!

Mary Miss Fairy and the murder mystery

Had a sweet bank holiday weekend on a mate's farm in Wales. Barns, BBQ, soundsystem, woods, friends and camping... what more do you need? A pair of CD decks would've been handy but it didn't spoil the fun and we had many a wicked set to put on instead; including this epic techno / electro / breaks mix brought along by the lovely Mary Miss Fairy.
