Atomic Drop: Godzilla remix / Too Many Dicks on the Dancefloor
It's happened at last - Atomic Drop have dropped their first tune that us mere, non-superstar Dj's can get our grubby paws on! Coming straight outta Brighton, they're the best live electro/breaks/tech funk act of last year (I told you so), ripping it up at Glastonbury, Glade, Matter, Alpha Omega, Sonica, Electric Picnic and, ending the year where the started, on the beach at Bazil's massive Universo Paralello NYE party.
The first release is a bumping electro house remix of Dylan Rhymes and Tom Real's monster (geddit?) tech funk grinder Godzilla, on my fellow Suburbitonite Meat Katie's brilliant Lot 49 label.

Matt Dopamine's tumbling tech funk remix is also sick as...
02 - Godzilla (Dopamine Remix)128masters by LOT49
Get 'em both from Beatport before your mum does.
If you don't already know, Atomic Drop is the filthy, sordid and downright dirty project of James Anthony (aka Liquid Djems, Liquid Records Co - Owner/Founder) and Ken Barrett(aka Keny Keys), with occasional guest appearances by Joe Markendale and Daniel Thomas. They've also got a very close relationship with Inside Us All (Voted 2009 Number 01 VJ's Worldwide – DJ Mag - Public Vote) with whom they debued their first fully live Audio Visual show at Matter in 2009. Check out their joint skills in the hilarious Flight of the Conchords a/v remix below, from Atomic Drop's YouTube channel).
The boys should have their first EP, Forget Everything Else coming in February, on James's own label Liquid Records. There's also rumours of a psybreaks release compiled by Djem's somewhere on the horizon. Can't feckin wait.
Atomic Drop are playing live at Halcyon, Matter on March 12 alongside Simon Posford and a sick Alpha Omega line up, including Musical Mana favourites MaryMissFairy and Hedflux. Get your tickets HERE

Bassnectar: 2010 IDJ mixtape
Mashing up breaks, d'n'b, reggae, dubstep and glitch-hop in his own genre and tempo defying style, Bassnectar rules. I have very little else to say on the matter except that you NEED this mixtape like you need bass to breath...
I'll leave the rest to the man himself:
Welcome to another Bassnectar Transmission.
This episode is 44 minutes and 25 seconds of 10th-generation genre-re-wiring, exploring bass music through an open-minded lens, regardless of tempo, or even beat-structure… this sound clash aims straight for your body, with the intent to melt you down into a fidgeting, wobbling mess of enthusiasm and delight. In addition to some of my favorite old records and samples, this mix features several brand new Bassnectar tracks, heaps of exclusive edits, re-edits, and re-re-re-edits. Lot’s of re. Lot’s of mix. Lot’s of edits. We tore our favorite drum & bass to shreds, injected hip hop with some pogo-stick bass, amped up the tempo of dubstep, freaked out the gypsies, gave a nod to the dreamy 80’s and ended up similar to where we started off: omni-tempo maximalism strikes again.
Enjoy the ride.

XLR8R Podcast No113: Nosaj Thing
One of my favoruite podcasts from the end of last year, courtesy of the ever brilliant XLR8R magazine. 2009 was a very good year for Nosaj Thing. A regular at LA's Low End Theory, he's part of the same glitchy, jazzy future hop stable as Flying Lotus and Gas Lamp Killer. For me he also seems to be travelling down some similar sonic paths to Joker in the UK, picking up on more of a wonky dubstep vibe with a lot of his own tunes. This is his City Guide to LA.

Vibesquad: Colorado Lovestep
So when glitch-hop first crunked on my ears in 2007 one of the big names that stood out for me was Vibesquad (aka. Aaron Holstein). I didn't realise at the time that he'd only dropped the first Vibequad live set at Symbiosis Gathering the year before, but along with Tipper, Ooah, Edit and Bassnectar he's certainly been one of the producers that's led the way for the new west coast dubsteppy flavoured bass sound.
Best described on Last.fm:
"When Aaron isn’t playing bass/keys/vox/efx for Boulder Colorado’s all improv-breakz-d-tempo-ecclectica band ZILLA or SPORQUE (w/Ooah & Jamie Janover) he is hard at work makin the electr0-crunk-gnasty-gooey-dancefloor-throbberz and 3rd eye squeegeeing d-tempo-dub-psy-hopperz"
Whether making crunk style glitchhop or psy-dub, Vibesquad's production is just right - a tight reigned wobble rather than an over-excited over-simplified bassline, with plenty of intricate psycedelic high end arpeggios over the top to keep those synapses twinkling. He's recently put up two mixsets on his shiny new website - get your ears around these for a full flavour.
