Atomic Drop: Godzilla remix / Too Many Dicks on the Dancefloor

It's happened at last - Atomic Drop have dropped their first tune that us mere, non-superstar Dj's can get our grubby paws on! Coming straight outta Brighton, they're the best live electro/breaks/tech funk act of last year (I told you so), ripping it up at Glastonbury, Glade, Matter, Alpha Omega, Sonica, Electric Picnic and, ending the year where the started, on the beach at Bazil's massive Universo Paralello NYE party.

The first release is a bumping electro house remix of Dylan Rhymes and Tom Real's monster (geddit?) tech funk grinder Godzilla, on my fellow Suburbitonite Meat Katie's brilliant Lot 49 label.

Matt Dopamine's tumbling tech funk remix is also sick as...

Get 'em both from Beatport before your mum does.

If you don't already know, Atomic Drop is the filthy, sordid and downright dirty project of James Anthony (aka Liquid Djems, Liquid Records Co - Owner/Founder) and Ken Barrett(aka Keny Keys), with occasional guest appearances by Joe Markendale and Daniel Thomas. They've also got a very close relationship with Inside Us All (Voted 2009 Number 01 VJ's Worldwide – DJ Mag - Public Vote) with whom they debued their first fully live Audio Visual show at Matter in 2009. Check out their joint skills in the hilarious Flight of the Conchords a/v remix below, from Atomic Drop's YouTube channel).

The boys should have their first EP, Forget Everything Else coming in February, on James's own label Liquid Records. There's also rumours of a psybreaks release compiled by Djem's somewhere on the horizon. Can't feckin wait.

Atomic Drop are playing live at Halcyon, Matter on March 12 alongside Simon Posford and a sick Alpha Omega line up, including Musical Mana favourites MaryMissFairy and Hedflux. Get your tickets HERE

Disco of Doom: Rising up from the gurgling belly of the underworld

Disco of Doom's dawn set on the Arcadia stage at Glade this year is going to go down as one of my musical highlights of 2009. There was just something perfect about the marriage of their awesome sonic barrage in the grey morning light and this flame-throwing post-apocaylptic setting, with Tom Real hanging the top half of his body out of the DJ tower and gesturing at the dancing masses like a man possed.

Disco of Doom is a collaboration between Tom Real and The Rogue Element, longtime respected electro breaks producers, who are pushing new buttons with a sound that can't quite be described as techno, electro bass or fidget house. It's more like twisting, writhing, grinding house and techno - laced with electro poison and acid 303 - that winds you round it's little finger, pounds you into submission, then spits you out the other side.

The initially came together for a Samurai Fm radio show through their 'shared appetite for destruction and a love of loose women'. I first noticed their crunchy electro breaks collaborations on Passenger in about 2007 and they put out their first release as Disco of Doom in 2008. Since then they've released a number of tunes and remixes over the summer, most notably their already classic remix of Chemical Brothers 'Do It Again' (click for free download) and the filthy 'Warpig' (check the Foamo remix below!). The duo are currently 'locked in the studio working towards delivering their debut artist album'.

One thing these boys have done well is tap the new electro bass sound being championed by the likes of Andy George and Jaymo on radio one, and make it something much dirtier. For a full flavour, click the link below to download their November 09 Promo Mix featuring cuts from Vitalic, Boys Noize, Passion Pit, Doorly, Claude Von Stroke + new and exclusive new Disco of Doom tracks:

If you're in London, catch Disco of Doom and their How's My Raving Sound System at their monthly Out The Box night at The White House in Clapham. There's one tonight - see details below.

Crunk Pioneers: Lazer Sword

Can't remember who pointed me in their direction, but I'm just enjoying a one hour exclusive podcast mix by Lazer Sword for XLR8R magazine:

Future Blappin' - Lazer Sword - Jan 2009

More bass heavy hip-hop tinged sounds from San Francisco. Described as "digital crunk pioneers" they blend hip-hop, future-bass and electro. It took me a few tracks to get into the mix but now I'm there I'm digging it. They're currently on an EU tour:

20 Feb 2009 THUGS AND HUGS LONDON
21 Feb 2009 Nottingham
28 Feb 2009 APPLETREE NIGHTS @ BITTERZOET Amsterdam
28 Feb 2009 DUM DUM @ TIVOLI Utrecht, Utrecht
21 Mar 2009 LANDO KAL LIVE... VENLO, NETHERLANDS

Nightshifters are Proper Villans

Last week I flagged up a banging electro/dubstep breaks soundclash by a New York gal called Jubilee (or 4AM Jess). Having dug a bit deeper it turns out that in November Jess and DJ Donna Summers launched their own label called Nightshifters. Their blog, here, is regularly updated with fresh mixes and it's all sounding pretty tasty so far.

The lastest out the gate is Proper Villains with a wonky mixtape that sits somewhere between electro house, dubstep, breaks, d'n'b and old skool rave. I have no idea how it works either, but trust me, it does...

Le Castle Vania: Rave is King!

One of the highlights of my sojourn into electro over the last few weeks has been a couple of tracks I've downloaded from US based Electro/Disco House producer Le Castle Vania. If you like electro breaks or Justice you'll love this - often has plenty of trashy electric guitars thrown in with electro synth shapes and a good beat.

Today I actually took the trouble of visiting his myspace, where he's got a list of all his free tracks and remixes to download. Scroll down and they're under a fuck off huge banner saying FREE MUSIC so you can't miss 'em - despite the fluro flashing gifs all over your face.

To save you the trouble I've plucked out the two that caught my attention here. First one has Freeland like samples and will slip niceley into any electro breaks set, second is a cover of Smashing Pumpkin's Zero. Nice. Just rick click and save as:
